AirLogix Teams with CHA Health for Healthy Airways Program

(Dallas, TX, September 21, 2002 ) CHA Health representatives today announced that the company is instituting a new Healthy Airways program to help its members manage symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Healthy Airways is an innovative program that will feature Kentucky-based respiratory therapists working with CHA Health members to identify ways to avoid complications with asthma and COPD. AirLogix, an independent, national disease management company, will administer the program.

"There are many people in Kentucky who battle these diseases every day," said CHA Health CEO Mark D. Birdwhistell. "The goal of this program is to improve the quality of care and the quality of life of our members. Healthy Airways is an exciting program that will give our members the opportunity to take control of their respiratory diseases and avoid living in fear of asthma attacks."

CHA Health and AirLogix representatives are working with physicians across Kentucky to educate them about the benefits of the Healthy Airways program.

"We are pleased to be partnering with CHA Health in supporting Healthy Airways," said Susan B. Riley, President of AirLogix. "Our unequaled respiratory education capabilities and intervention experience enables us to provide expert support to CHA Health members with asthma and COPD through the Healthy Airways program."

According to the latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control, 7.8% of Kentuckians have asthma. COPD was the fourth leading cause of death in Kentucky in 1997, the last year the statistics are available.

"Information and awareness play a big role in helping people cope with asthma and COPD," said CHA Health Chief Health Services Officer Dr. Tim Costich. "Once people realize what triggers their symptoms, they will realize when they are at risk for complications. Our respiratory therapists live in Kentucky and they understand the weather and allergens that can trigger pulmonary attacks. That will make a big difference in our members' health care."

Healthy Airways is CHA Health's fifth Healthy Initiative program. The other programs, Healthy Heart, Healthy Beginnings, Healthy Horizons and Nurse411ä, have given members the opportunity to take an active role in their health care.
